Previewing the 2014/14 Premier League Season

Manchester United (89 Points) easily won the trophy last season due to a high powered offensive attack. Manchester City (78 Points), Chelsea (75 Points) and Arsenal (73 Points) finished in the T4 and earned a spot in the Champions League this season.

Manchester City spent nearly £100M in the transfer market to bolster their offence. They signed Stevan Jovetic, Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Fernandinho. They also sold Tevez and Maicon, so City will have a new look in the midfield this season.

Manchester United scored the most goals last season (86) and had the best goal differential (+43). Man Utd has been quiet in the transfer market this summer. They signed Guillermo Varela only up to this point and they haven’t sold anyone either yet.

Chelsea may be a team that could contend for the trophy if their strikers can score consistently. Chelsea has amazing depth at the midfield position and if Lukaku, Torres and Ba can get in form this season Chelsea may make a run at the trophy.

Arsenal finished strong last season and only had 1 loss in their L16 league matches. Arsenal has also been quiet this summer, but the team should be able to fight for a T3 finish. Last season they ranked 2nd in goals against (37), but they need to score more.

2014-14 Premier League Winner Betting Tips

City made a lot of improvements to an already great squad and they should have the offence they need now to win the trophy this season. The defence is still in tact from last season and they allowed a league best 34 goals.

The problem last season was that City didn’t score enough (66 Goals – Tied 5th Best). The defence is expected to be amongst the best in the league again and with the signings they made they should rank amongst the leaders in goals scored as well.

2014-14 Premier League Golden Boot Betting Tips

Robin Van Persie has won the golden boot the L2 seasons in the Premier League. Van Persie scored 26 goals last term and he’s a 4.50 favourite to 3-peat. However, I think last season’s 4th place finisher Christian Benteke has a great shot to win the award.

Benteke is a pure goalscorer and it looks like Bent is on his way out at Aston Villa. Villa has no other real threat to score goals this season and Benteke should be able to pile up goals even though it’s likely that Villa is going to be one of the worst teams.

If Lukaku can get in form quickly this season he should receive the bulk of the playing time at Chelsea and he could prove to be a surprise golden boot winner. Chelsea has a great offensive minded midfield that should set-up Lukaku with plenty of chances.
