2014 Champions League QF Tips

The opening leg of the 2014 UEFA Champions League quarter-final matches are on the 1st Tuesday and Wednesday of April. It’s a bit surprising that no English sides have qualified into the QF round, but there are some great squads left in the hunt.

Paris Saint Germain v Barcelona Betting Preview

  • Paris Saint Germain: 5.66 / Barcelona: 1.66 / Draw: 4.11

PSG is 6-1-1 in the Champions League this year with their lone loss at Porto (1-0). At home PSG is 3-1-0 and the team has scored 11 goals while only conceding 3 goals in their 4 home matches. PSG is going to be tough to defeat in the opening leg.

Barcelona is 5-1-2 and has been shaky in away matches with losses against Celtic (2-1) and AC Milan (2-0). Barcelona has scored a total of 6 goals and conceded 4 goals in 4 away matches during the 2014 Champions League.

Not only is PSG tough to score on at home, but they have a lot of talent up front including Ibrahimovic and Lavezzi. I think in this match Barcelona will be happy to play to a close low scoring draw and my best bet in the match is PSG +1 (1.84) in the AH market.

Bayern Munchen v Juventus Betting Preview

  • Bayern Munchen: 1.67 / Juventus: 5.85 / Draw: 4.00

Juventus has looked great in the Champions League this year. They’re undefeated (5-3-0) and they’ve won their L5 matches. The team has scored 13 goals during the 5-game winning streak, but more importantly Juventus hasn’t conceded a goal.

Bayern Munchen is 5-1-2 and that includes a home loss their last time out on the pitch against Arsenal (2-0). Juventus hasn’t been that tested in away matches yet except for a match against Chelsea that ended 2-2, but apart from that their draw has been easy.

Bayern has only kept one clean sheet in the Champions League this year, which was against Lille in an away match. Apart from a single clean sheet Bayern has conceded in every match, so I expect Juventus to find the net. I like the draw at 4.00 in this one.

Malaga v Borussia Dortmund Betting Preview

  • Malaga: 3.55 / Borussia Dortmund: 2.21 / Draw: 3.48

Dortmund is another undefeated team in the Champions League with a 5-30 record while Malaga is 4-3-1 after losing to FC Porto in the opening leg of the last round. Dortmund is definitely the better team here, but playing away from home worries me a bit.

So far these two teams are amongst the best defensively. Dortmund has conceded just 7 goals while Malaga has only conceded 6 goals during the Champions League. My best bet is U2 / U2.5 goals (2.06), as I expect a slow paced match in the opening leg.

Real Madrid v Galatasaray Betting Preview

  • Real Madrid: 1.18 / Galatasaray: 18.92 / Draw: 8.50

Not many expected Galatasaray to advance over Schalke 04, but they did just that. This is the easiest match-up to predict, as it’s very unlikely that Galatasaray will be able to keep up with the overwhelming talent on Real Madrid over two legs.

There is no value betting on Real Madrid in the 1X2 market, but I like U3.5 goals (1.95) in this match. Galatasaray should come out slowly in this opening leg since it’s away from home. They’d be happy with 0-0 draw or 1-0 loss and I expect a defensive match.
