We should be in for a high scoring Champions League final on Saturday at Wembley Stadium. Bayern averaged 2.42 GPG (2nd) in the Champions League this year while Dortmund wasn’t too far behind with an average of 1.92 GPG (5th).
Bayern was able to run away with the Bundesliga title this year due to their stellar play. Bayern scored an average of 2.88 GPG (1st) and conceded an average of 0.53 GPG (1st) while Dortmund averaged 2.38 GPG (2nd) and conceded 1.24 GPG (4th).
Four players on both teams scored in double digits during the Bundesliga campaign. Lewandowski (24), Blaszczykowski (11), Reus (14) and Gotze (10) were the main goalscorers on Dortmund. Lewandowski also has 10 goals in the Champions League.
Bayern has tons of scoring depth, but the four scorers in DD are Mandzukic (15), Muller (13), Gomez (11) and Ribery (11). Muller is leading Bayern with 8 Champions League goals during the competition, but others have pitched in as well.
Arjen Robben who struggled during league play this season has 3 goals in the CL including 2 goals against Barcelona. He turned up his play in the semi-finals and with just one match left to play for glory you can expect Robben to be 100% focused.
Defensively Bayern has really stepped it up and I think that’s the biggest edge in this match. In the quarter-finals Bayern were able to dominate Juventus and they won both legs 2-0. They then beat Barcelona 4-0 and 3-0 in the semi-finals of the CL.
2014 Champions League Predictions
It’s hard to see Bayern lose this match after the way they played in the QF’s and SF’s of the competition. In the Bundesliga this season these two teams played to 1-1 draws both times they met, but I think Bayern has the talent to dominate this match.
The way Bayern played in the 1st leg against Barcelona was great football. Bayern has more offensive firepower, better defence and a better goalkeeper. Getting close to even money on Bayern to win in the 1X2 market is good enough value for me.
Muller has 8 goals in the Champions League including 3 against Barcelona in the semi-finals. He has been in great form and while most bettors will be looking to Mandzukic or Lewandowski to score 1st I think Muller will open up the scoring at Wembley.
